A spectacular visual epic captured on canvas. The central triptych features the divine family—Lord Shiva with Parvati, a powerful multi-armed Ganesha, and Shiva riding Nandi. Framing this sacred center is an incredible border of 20 detailed circular medallions that chronologically narrate the famous mythological legend of Ganesha's birth: from his creation by Goddess Parvati and guarding the palace doors, to the epic battle with Shiva's army, and his ultimate transformation into the elephant-headed Lord of Beginnings. A magnificent piece of narrative folk art full of heritage and detail.
Pattachitra is one of India’s oldest and most vibrant scroll painting traditions, deeply rooted in the cultural and religious fabric of Odisha. Originating in the 12th century around the cult of Lord Jagannath, this art form is traditionally executed by hereditary artists known as Chitrakars.
Every painting is created on a handmade canvas made of layered cotton cloth treated with tamarind paste and chalk powder. Artists strictly use natural pigments sourced from stones, conch shells, and plants to depict intricate stories from Hindu mythology and folklore. Characterized by its sharp, freehand outlines, expressive features, and rich decorative borders, Pattachitra beautifully bridges the gap between sacred devotion and master craftsmanship.
